Seeing Judy's sculpture reminded me that I needed to take a picture of the L train sculpture that I keep running by.
Meridith and I went to brunch on Sunday and she got her favorite pancakes. They're from the Lodge, kindly folk who give out real syrup and bloody marys. -If anyone's found a hat that looks a lot like that guy's in the background, but with "Rockport" on it, it's mine. Please give it back.
A congratulatory kiss from Eve Bailey isn't all Fernando got in Newark, he also got all the attention from Newark's Star Ledger in this review. So much for not playing with your food.
Here's a video I edited last night using footage I shot last year in Utah. You see, when I was in school my mind would occasionally wander to a bullet proof skateboard. I thought that my history with skateboards, and my preoccupation with defensive tactics could meld into one object symbolizing my "artist's statement", it would be that beautiful, clear skateboard. So I eventually came upon some inch thick plexiglass for free, and viola, a bullet proof skateboard. I rode it a little and it really sucked on the flats, and wasn't much better on the hills. Tricks of any sort were out of the question. So I set it aside, proud that I had achieved my goal of making the bullet proof skateboard a reality. One day my friend Mike was telling me about his expanding gun collection and that we should go shooting one day when I came out to visit (I had never shot a "real" gun before). No better time to test my object of power. I had big dreams, the bullets would become lodged in the plastic, trapped by their own power. Anyways, I shot it 3 times with a mix of weapons. We start off with Mike shooting it with an old Russian army rifle, pretty serious stuff, then hit it with Cowboy's Range rifle, also no slouch of a hand canon. The icing on the cake comes at the end with a Glock 9mm. I was out there with Mike Abramovitz, "Cowboy" Corey, and Gene Hare. All these guys shred skateboards with love and devotion, so they're qualified to blow them things up. Here's the video-
Here's Tina Zavitsanos in the Sykes gallery talking about my art. My ears were itchin' all the way up in westchester county. I think I chuckled a bit too. Thanks to Meridith for the video (she ran out of tape when Tina started talking about her). Meridith also took some better pictures that I'll put up later. What up Bent!!
Diana Al-Hadid at Perry Rubenstein Gallery Diana's amazing. A LINK to her website. Her show runs through the 21st of the month. Check the links for good pictures of the show, then go see it if you haven't. Hey look, it's Charlie Roberts(who spent the summer with Al-Hadid at the Skowhegan Residency), Meesha Giles, & Fernando "brakes are for chumps, as are misspellings" Mastrangelo.
And while you're at it go see Michael Scoggins at Freight and Volume Gallery through the 24th. Again, check the links for the really good pictures that the work deserves.

Hey Art, check out this awesome church while you're there
Ryan Fabry- street shredder, pool popper, and ladykiller. He once saved me from a brutal stabbing by offering to help the stabber kill me, but only if the wannabee stabber stuck Ryan first (the offer to help kill me only stood if Ryan survived his stabbing). We all lived. Thank you Ryan, and thanks go out to Kid Love for not killing us both.
Now boldly skid stopping, Fernando Mastrangelo took his first bike trip to Manhattan yesterday. No brakes and 1 pant hungry gear didn't cause any problems. We were first in line for the awesome seats for the new Denzel movie, which, like any other gangster movie, is full of a lot of killing and the bad guys were good guys but were really bad guys.
